Facing COVID-19 as a community
Muizenberg Community Action Network (CAN) is a team of volunteers from Muizenberg. We’ve come together to take care of each other as a collective in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. We join over 100 community action networks (CANs) as part of the greater Cape Town Together initiative.
Muizenberg-CAN is working to build the resilience of our community. Our support covers key areas. These include: food security, emotional support, child and family wellness, and public awareness raising and anti-stigma communications around COVID-19. Our network of ‘street reps’ co-ordinate support at a street level.
To support our neighbours in Vrygrond we collaborate with Vrygrond United 4 Change and Amava Oluntu, who are running a network of community kitchens. We also collaborate with Costa da Gama CAN, which is running a community kitchen.
The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented global crisis that is putting strain on all sectors of society. Together, we are united in our response and are facing the challenges head on as a collective.
